Become a host

What is involved?

We offer you the opportunity to help French guests improve their level of English while making some extra income from home.

We do our best to match the host family’s interests with those of the guest to make the stays as enjoyable as possible for both parties.

How it works

Organising a stay with a host family: the steps

From the initial enquiry to the immersion, Anglais in France handles all the necessary paperwork.

01

Request for a stay

French students or families contact us by phone or email. We help them find the right immersion based on their preferences.

  • Dates of stay
  • Geographical area
  • Family with or without children
  • Student interests
  • Type of lessons required

We review our records, select suitable host families, and send their descriptions to the students or families for consideration.

If you are selected as a potential host, we will contact you to confirm your availability and describe the request. There is no obligation to host, but we kindly ask for a prompt response.

02

Hosting a student

Once you have accepted a student, a confirmation email will be sent to both parties. You will receive a contract to sign electronically for each student.

This contract includes the dates, arrival times, and details about your guest. Your guest will be asked to contact you approximately one week before the immersion.

We recommend that you communicate any house rules in advance, such as no smoking, limited use of mobile phones, headphones, or computer games.

During the immersion

During the stay

The host family must:

  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment to foster confidence and friendship between the student and family members.
  • Support the student and make them feel like part of the family, with the same privileges and responsibilities.

Adults may stay in accommodation attached to or separate from the family home. However, teenagers must stay within the family home, and an adult family member must be present at all times unless otherwise agreed by the teenager’s parents.

Student’s expenses

The fee paid by the guest to the host family covers food, lodging, and time spent together.

Students should have extra money available for paid attractions, sports activities, etc. Hosts planning activities should inform the guest in advance and provide an estimate of the costs.

After the stay

You may wish to stay in touch with your guest and possibly meet again. We have no objection to this. However, any request for a new stay must be addressed to the agency to ensure the stay is fully covered by our company’s insurance.

Agency standards

Our main expectations as an agency

The students we refer to you have requested an English-speaking homestay to improve their language skills. For this reason, we ask that only English is spoken at home and that the student becomes part of your family life, spending time with you.

We expect hosts to engage in everyday conversations and provide an immersive English experience. Hosting a guest requires effort and time, so families must be prepared to dedicate attention to their French visitor.

Families with children at home

If you have bilingual children, we ask that they speak only English with the guest. The goal of the immersion is to practice English.

Applying to become a host family

If you wish to become a host family, please complete our Host Family form and provide photos of your home and family. The more details and photos you share, the better the student can make an informed choice.

After an initial chat with Jennifer, she will visit your home. Please note that visits cannot take place during the summer season.

Family Interests

Since 2008, we have organized stays that are enjoyable for both hosts and students. To ensure the best matches, it is important to mention any interests, hobbies, or passions, past or present.

Your preferences

When completing the Host Family form, you can specify if you prefer to host a particular type of student. Feel free to note all your preferences.

Your availability

We will assume you are available to host unless you tell us otherwise. Three times a year, we will ask you to update your availability.
